About Us
The Kern Farmers Market Association was
founded in 1980 by a group of local
citizens and farmers. The first
president/market manager was retired
Kern County Agricultural Commissioner Jim
Stockton. Jim still participates occasionally
in the market selling fresh cut flowers.
Current president Charles Drew has served
since 1981 and is a Certified Producer now
located in the mountain community of
Tehachapi.
During the first few years the Association
operated only seasonal markets only in
Bakersfield. Moving from many locations
the Saturday market has continued to be
located in the Downtown Bakersfield
area--centrally located for all city
residents.
